I I love playing with my color program Magic Bullet Looks, a plugin program that works with a variety of editing software. As you can see from my previous post demonstrating a color upgrade for my music video ‘Giraffe World,’ this program makes a world of difference!
Two years ago, my short film ‘The Box‘ was an Official Selection for the Action On Film Int’l Film Festival in California. When my film was accepted to be screened I decided that I was going to fix the credits – but I thought, why not, I’ll grade the entire film using Magic Bullet Looks! Check out the updated version of ‘The Box’ below, or watch directly on Vimeo:
Personally, I feel like the new color gives the film a bit more dimension – and I’ve been told objectively that this new color better communicates the feeling of the film! What do you think of the color difference?
Though I had initially chosen the overall yellow and black tones of the film to emphasize the ideal of the four humors’ black and yellow bile, I decided that the blue tones, or ‘phlegm,' better communicate the intended feeling. Attractive, huh?
Note that even the blacks are tinted blue in this 2013 color edit – ever watch those crime dramas that are largely cyan and yellow? For me, cyan and blue-tinted blacks are just beautiful, and so much more pleasant for my eyes.
You can learn more about ‘The Box’ on the film’s project page.
