Disable Hovering ‘Pin It’ Buttons In All Browsers

Did you just install the Pinterest ‘pin it’ buttons browser plugin for Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari, and suddenly every website you visit looks like it’s being attacked by tiny, hovering rectangles?

Though we love the ‘Pin it’ button located beside our browser sidebar, allowing us to ‘pin’ entire webpages, the additional hovering has to stop. Luckily, you can keep the single ‘Pin it’ button at the top of your web browser while hiding the hovering pin it buttons on every webpage.

Dave Taylor created a great tutorial to show you how to turn-off these hovering Pin-it buttons on Google Chrome at www.askdavetaylor.com. Below, we’ll show you how to turn-off the hovering buttons on Firefox, and Safari, and how to ‘remove’ the button in Internet Explorer.

1. Go to your Firefox ‘Tools’

2. Once inside ‘Tools,’ select the tab ‘Extensions’

A text-only list of internet extensions currently installed – including ‘Pin It Button.’

3. You will notice a text-only list of any internet extensions you currently have installed – including ‘Pin It Button.’ Beneath the title, there will be a small link labeled ‘More’ – click this.

4. Check the box ‘Hide hovering Pin it buttons’

Check the box ‘Hide hovering Pin it buttons.’

Go to your ‘Internet Options,’ an option found when you click the cog wheel icon in the top-right corner of your browser.

1. Go to your Internet Explorer ‘Internet Options,’ an option found when you click the cog wheel icon in the top-right corner of your browser.

2. Once in ‘Internet Options, select the tab ‘Programs’

3. You will see (3) more options – select the middle option ‘Manage Add-Ons’

4. In ‘Manage Add-Ons,’ you will see a list of your internet add-ons with icons, including the red, circular ‘Pin’ button icon beside the words ‘Pin It’

5. When you select ‘Pin It’ you will see some additional information about this add-on.

However, there is no ‘remove hovering buttons’ option in Internet Explorer; you can only ‘remove’ the entire add-on.

Note: If you have found a way to remove the hovering ‘Pin It’ button in Internet Explorer, please share!

1. Go to your Safari ‘Preferences’

2. Once inside Preferences, select the tab ‘Extensions’

3. You will notice a large, circular ‘Pin it’ button, denoting the Pinterest pin-it button extension you installed

4. Check the box ‘Hide hovering Pin it buttons’

Changing these options in your internet preferences should make the hovering go away. However, we’re still unsure if there’s a way to do this on Internet Explorer without removing the entire button altogether. If you have insight into this dilemma, please share your tips in the post comments, below!
