We came across a new style of computer technology — Suissa Computers. These new computers, created by Howard Suissa as part of his computer company, emphasize design and style, stepping outside “the box” to which other, mainstream computers are confined.
In 2006 I launched Suissa Computers at the IIDEX/NeoCon show in Toronto. As a marketing choice, this decision was made to position computers in a new category. Computers have always been the stuff of the engineer. Since the 1980's when the current box form factor became the norm, not much has changed. I sought to redefine computers for the home using design thinking. Computers were becoming the centre of the home and needed to provide people with a visual vernacular which spoke of their emotional connection. The idea that the computer should be as beautiful as the memories it stored led to a number of designs. The choice to use wood as a key element was designed to force people to want to touch technology in a warm way. Styling had it's roots in the 1950's but spoke of a future where mass production was personal.
Suissa Computers as a company, it's product offerings, it's marketing, promotions and experience were all designed as if they were a multi-faceted product. I wanted to create a successful company, one that was profitable and created clients. But, I wanted to design a company that would get me noticed for my designs, my insights and my innovative business sense.
